FT-817 military

FT-817 military
I made a case of YAESU FT-817

I have been playing YAESE's FT-817 transceiver in a military radio case case than before. I wanted to see it, so I want you to release it, I have released a voice that there is.
Since all uses acrylic of 1 mm to 5 mm thick, strength is reasonable, it is simply a self-satisfying item.
FT - 817 is an all - mode transceiver of HF / VHF / UHF, but it is very compact. Although it is good for use in horizontal placement, it is extremely poor stability when used upright. The way I thought about doing something, it became like this form.

FT-817 CW Filter Installation

I received my long awaited YF-122C 455KHz Collins Mechanical CW filter today. It was a snap to install, but there are a couple of things to look out for. Here's the photos and story. Click on any of the photos to see the full size version.

1. Removing the top cover is simple - first take off the shoulder strap brackets (4 screws) and then remove the 5 screws in the top cover and it pops right off - don't undo the two screws nearest the speaker grille, those hold the speaker in place on the underside of the top cover. Be sure not to damage the speaker wires or connector. The wire from the speaker is pretty short but there's just enough room to get to the connector to undo it if you tilt the top cover up at the rear.

2. The filter goes in the space at the front of the board.

How to make the most out of your Yaesu FT-817 - The RFGain - M0VST [HD]

Hey all
A tip about the RF/SQL dial and its uses.
There are lots of transceivers where the obvious place for the RF gain is to be is 100% (maximum) with some radios being unusable unless it is! The FT817 isn't one of them.

I thought I'd share how I use this function to my advantage, all the other bits and bobs like DSP and SSB filters are all extras but the free RF gain function gets under-used and overlooked by many hams who then give the front end of the FT-817 bad press without fully getting to grips with its function.

The Inrad #720 filter has much more effect on the received audio when the RF gain is on 100%.

I hope this helps in your future 817 adventures, I know from being portable that you have to make the most of the technology in your chosen transceiver, you can't take everything with you!

If it has helped you then please be sure to click SHARE below the video to help others, It might be that rare DX that you need but he/she has his/her RF gain set at 100% and can't hear you!

Yaesu FT-817 First Impressions Review

In this video, I explain why I've added the 817 to my shack, give you my initial impressions of the rig and address the most common complaints other have leveled against it.

Yaesu FT-817 Portable HF Radio Kit

Yaesu FT-817 Portable HF Radio Kit

I just wanted to share my current portable setup which includes the following all in compact, lightweight box.
- Yaesu FT-817
- Microphone
- Mic Cable
- 4000mAh Li Ion 11.1v battery
- Off-Center Fed Dipole (works on 80m, 40m, 20m, 15m, and 10m w/o a tuner)
- 1:1 / 4:1 switchable QRP balun (http://betterqrp.com/)
- 30' of RG-174 coaxial cable

The case is a B&W Outdoor Case Type 05 which you can find for around $30 online. The whole kit weights about 5-6 lbs which isn't too bad for a complete, all-band, all-mode rig in a 9" x 7" x 3.5" package.

I generally carry the cord for hoisting the antenna into trees separately, but they would likely fit coiled on the same spool as the antenna.

I misquoted the source for the balun kit. It's actually from http://betterqrp.com/. I modified the design to make it switchable. I'll talk more about the antenna in another video.

Getting Started with the Yaesu FT-817ND

Sharing some thoughts about the Yaesu FT-817 amateur radio to illustrate some useful additions to increase utility and enjoyment of the unit. Highlighted are external connection to a sealed lead-acid battery, Palm Paddles for CW, Palm Peg Leg kit for propping up radio and Low Profile Amateur Radio book from ARRL.

Yaesu Ft-817

The Yaesu FT-817ND is a new deluxe version of the hugely popular FT-817. The FT-817ND includes 60 meter coverage plus the new high capacity FNB-85 battery. The Yaesu FT817 is a great QRP rig and I have been using it on a camping trip. Combined with the Wonder Wand ATU it covers all HF and VHF bands. In this very short video you will hear 40m band and airband but I am planning to shoot more videos with the FT817

DROIDPSK PSK31 on Android | YAESU FT-817

In this video we demonstrate a lightweight man-portable PSK configuration, using a Samsung Galaxy Tab, FT-817, & WolphiLINK interface.

if you would like to try DroidPSK you can get it here http://amzn.to/1tPzq9l

This setup is designed to demonstrate the minimal gear required to run PSK31 man-portable using an Android Smartphone, DroidPSK, the WolphiLink Interface, and a Yaesu FT-8x7.

DroidPSK is available in the Google Play store. Thankfully, It is an ad-free paid app. As found on desktop PSK applications, DroidPSK has a real time waterfall to display the incoming streams of data. It has customizable macros to help speed reduce the amount of typing with the sometimes awkward virtual keyboards of tablets and smartphones. It also have so built in automation to also designed to ease returns during QSO's.

From a Survival, off grid, or radio expedition perspective, DroidPSK, the FT-817 and the WolphiLINK interface, allow amateur radio operators to use minimal gear, with the same functionality as full size base or field stations! Moreover, this minimal configuration means when operating man-portable, youll have more ounces and grams for other essential items, rather than wasting precious carrying capacity on unnecessary items.

Yaesu FT-817 QRP (Im Not Beleived) PART 1
Decided to try something diffrent, not really expecting to get a contact with low power, and when I do I'm not beleived by a particular station. You cannot win, maybe if I was using a "G3" call I may have been beleived.
